Caring for your Recycled timber Grazing Boards
Our grazing boards have been created out of imperfectly perfect recycled timbers. Locally designed and made, the individual grains and characteristics of the recycled timber create naturally beautiful one-off designs. Here are some tips to ensure longevity of your boards from daily care, eco-friendly finish to rejuvenation …
AN Eco-Friendly Finish
All our boards are completed with a food, toy and allergy free environmentally friendly linseed oil called Livos. Available in Melbourne. It’s a transparent, semi-gloss finish that doesn’t discolour the timber. It’s water resistant and heat resistant to 50 degrees. Livos oils are a blend of natural oils resins and waxes. They penetrate into the top pores of the timber. Creating a beautiful durable surface that allows ease of rejuvenation at a later stage.
Daily cleaning of your board
Maintaining your recycled timber grazing board/cheese board is simple if you follow some regular daily habits -
❊ Always wipe down your board soon after use, don’t leave food bits stuck on it.
❊ It is not advisable to put the board under the kitchen tap. And do not soak your board in water!
❊ Use a damp not wet, clean, “non-harsh” dishcloth to wipe down the board.
❊ To prevent food stains on your board, use mild soap or gentle dishwashing detergent when cleaning your board.
❊ Do not put your board in a dishwasher! This may seem obvious to some, but the heat and water in the dishwasher could warp, split or crack the timber.
❊ Let your boards air dry evenly. Meaning after its wiped down, if still a little damp, dry with a tea towel, then either hang or sit in a drying rack so both sides are equally exposed to the air.
Rejuvenating your board
❊ Over time with regular use your board may look a little worn. This could be anytime from 18 months plus depending on use. All it needs is some TLC (tender love and care). The time needed for rejuvenating your board will depend on the sanding process.
❊ Sand scrub: it is best to use a range of sandpapers. For deep cuts, start with a course sandpaper, 120 grit, and go up to 240 grit, for lighter sanding. - When the surface looks clean, dry off any dust residue from the sanding.
❊ Apply *Livos Oil. Please read the label for directions.
Tip: Wipe on evenly with a rag or small roller. After the board is coated, leave and ensure to wipe off excess after 15 minutes. It is recommended not to use the surface for 12 hours. Then repeat on the other side. Always oil both sides to retain an overall nourished board.
*If you wish to use another finish, now is when you apply. I suggest using an environmentally friendly product with our boards and for the planet.
Spending a moment to care for your grazing boards will provide years of entertaining enjoyment.
